                About this program

            Follow your creative calling
The doctorate program is intended for students who are highly proficient in instrumental or electroacoustic composition techniques, who have written several pieces and are interested in pursuing artistic or teaching opportunities. In this program, you will develop an original creative approach by crafting large-scale works that demonstrate complete mastery of language, style and form. You will also demonstrate esthetic reflection by presenting your creative process using clear, consistent and critical language.
Fine-tuning your unique, individual creative process means being proficient in the traditional instrumental composition tools, such as the transcription of musical ideas to a score, and in the technology tools developed for the various forms of digital music.
A major focus of the program is on developing your composition skills under the guidance of a faculty member, through composing concert music, music for the screen (cinema, video games, the web) and the stage (dance, theatre).

             	- Diverse artistic pathways to explore: vocal and instrumental composition, mixed composition, electroacoustic and electronic composition, performing arts and sound installations, media arts and software art applied to sound and music creation
  	- Specialized seminars: instrumental writing (stylistic symphonic orchestration, 20th century harmony, fugue, etc.), music technologies (computer-assisted composition, digital lutherie and interactive systems, digital audio effects, etc.) and production tools specific to music for audiovisual applications
  	- Internationally renowned teaching staff whose works cover a range of esthetic traditions
  	- Half-time studies allowed after completion of 6 full-time academic sessions

Note that the option you are interested in may not be offered during the session for which you wish to apply.
