About this program
At the forefront of research training
Expand your knowledge of the major trends in music research by specializing in a specific and innovative area. The objective of the PhD in music is to advance knowledge in the discipline and provide you with opportunities to engage in contemporary scientific and musicological debate. Your training will also strengthen your oral and written communication skills, specifically through sharing and disseminating knowledge.
The program covers a wide range of music study perspectives: - Historical musicology
- Music analysis and theory
- Music semiology, philosophy, aesthetics
- Ethnomusicology, anthropology of music
- Sociomusicology
- Music mediation
- Cinemusicology, ludomusicology
- Cognitive and experimental musicology, musical acoustics, psychoacoustics, biomusicology
- Digital musicology, computer music
- Organology
- Analysis of creative processes in music
- Research-creation (performance, improvisation, composition), as well as any interdisciplinary approach that intersects these disciplines, and other related disciplines (visual arts, cinema, literature, political science, sociology, psychology, computer science, movement science, etc.)
The program covers various musical repertoires (Western art and popular music, world music, film and video game music). Possible program research areas include analyzing these artistic areas, their creative and transmission processes, as well as the associated overall supporting ecosystem.
