About this program

Postdoctoral training aims to prepare you for a career in research by solidifying the expertise you acquired during your doctoral studies (PhD). 

  • Winter session: For postdoctoral training programs starting between January 1 and April 30

Admission requirements

Be sure to select your choices to display the eligibility conditions that apply to you.

Program-specific conditions

To be admitted as a postdoctoral trainee, candidates must: 

  • Have held a research doctorate (Ph.D.) or equivalent for five (5) years or less.  
  • Be recommended by a professor (the person responsible for supervising the training) and the director of the academic unit concerned. 
  • Be the recipient of a grant or remuneration from the person supervising your training or from the hosting institution. 
  • The postdoctoral fellow must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or hold a valid work permit for the period of his/her formation or be in the process of obtaining one for the period in question. 

Graduates who have held their doctoral degree for 5 years or more may be admitted on an exceptional basis if they can justify the lapse of time by career interruptions for various reasons deemed valid.
